Every September, schools around the globe celebrate the importance of drinking milk. Since the first WSMD in 2000, it has grown to become an annual event celebrated in more than 40 countries.

Farmers that supply milk to Austrian schools told pupils about the school milk programme and the value of milk and dairy products, and gave them the chance to sample many of the products.

Dairy Crest Foodservice teamed up with Tetra Pak to produce a special information booklet to help inform primary school children of the benefits of a healthy diet and why dairy is an important part of this.

The Pan American dairy federation Fepale used World School Milk Day to launch the next phase of its ‘Yes to Milk’ campaign, aimed at promoting consumption of milk and dairy products, especially by children.

Finland celebrated World School Milk Day with the campaign theme ‘Without morning milk, you’ll still be sleeping’, supported by a poster campaign, teaching materials and a website.

Poland held a Youth Nutrition Meeting, where guests included members of the ‘Milk for School, Milk for Health’ Foundation.

Celebrations continued at an ecological pre and primary school complex at Kaliszki near Warsaw, where more than a hundred children and staff wearing white T-shirts attended an event discussing the role of milk in human nutrition.


Tetra Pak Romania invited school milk stakeholders and the press to join a conference, where they launched an art competition, inviting school children to illustrate the goodness of milk. 84 winners were rewarded with bicycles.





Cool Milk, the UK’s leading supplier of school milk, held a series of events throughout the country to raise awareness and get more children drinking milk.

Minister for state in the Department of Health, Gillian Merron, along with a number of other MPs attended to show her support for Cool Milk and join in the celebrations by having a drink of the white stuff as well.
