With climate change and greenhouse gas emissions high on the agenda, the dairy industry is working hard to meet the various environmental challenges and to prepare itself for the United Nations Climate Change Conference due to take place in Denmark in December 2009.
As part of that work, the European Dairy Association commissioned independent Dutch research and consultancy organisation CE Delft to carry out a literature review focusing on the effects of the dairy life cycle on climate change, and to provide clear and objective information on the current state of business regarding greenhouse gas emissions.
The results of that report were presented at a recent press briefing in Brussels attended by Dairy Innovation editor, Geoff Platt. After the briefing, Geoff spoke to EDA secretary general, Dr Joop Kleibeuker, and Luc Morelon, director of external affairs at Lactalis and chairman of the EDA’s Working Group on Sustainability.
