They had a more international flavour than many other months, with 26 countries affected: 15 involved the US, six France, five China and Switzerland, four Germany and three each India, Japan, the Netherlands and the UK.
All three for Japan were purchases by Asahi, all three for India sales. Soft drinks came out ahead with 10 transactions, followed by packaging on seven, then five apiece for alcohol, dairy and ingredients.
Two were in the billion dollar league: French dairy Lactalis gaining majority control over Italy-based Parmalat, and Nestlé acquiring China’s Hsu Fu Chi confectionery group.
