In addition, AB InBev says it will continue to improve operational efficiency by setting goals for further water and energy use reductions, as well as setting global goals on packaging materials reduction and eco-friendly refrigerator purchases.
The goals are announced on AB InBev’s fifth annual global celebration of World Environment Day (WED), an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Inge Plochaet, AB InBev’s UK and Ireland president, said: “Protecting and promoting the environment is a fundamental part of our dream to be the ‘Best Beer Company in a Better World’. Our new environmental goals focus on where it matters most: striving to conserve and protect our natural resources, and continuing to reduce packaging by using fewer, lighter-weight and recycled materials.
“Our approach recognises that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to improve sustainability. The key will be to leverage the experience and expertise of our colleagues in our three UK brewery sites.”
AB InBev aims to reach these goals, which are shared across 24 countries, by the end of 2017.
