Arla Foods has launched a new Icelandic yogurt called Skyr, as it seeks to become a leading brand name in the UK yogurt category.
Skyr is a fat-free, protein-rich Icelandic-style yogurt that contains 30% less sugar than alternative yogurt products. There are three flavours available in 450g pots – simply natural, mixed with strawberry, and mixed with honey – and five varieties available in 150g pots, including layered with Nordic sour cherry, strawberry, apple and lingonberry, and Nordic mixed berries. The two formats will retail for £0.85 and £1.69 respectively.
It is the first yogurt launched by the company since Arla Protein in January.
Arla Foods UK category director Stuart Ibberson said: “Following fast on the heels of Arla Protein, we are excited to be launching our first Icelandic style yogurt in the UK. It is a healthy and delicious tasting yogurt and we feel that consumers will really value its healthy and nutritional credentials making it the first ‘super yogurt’. It’s high in protein, is fat free, has 30% less sugar than similar products and it tastes fantastic!
“Icelanders are known for their unique diets and healthy lifestyles and Skyr plays a central role in this. It’s an important opportunity for us to attract active health seekers into the category, including young professionals and those aged 55 plus.
“This is the second big new product launch that we’ve brought to the UK market under the Arla name. Entering the yogurt category is enabling us to strengthen our position as the leading dairy company in the UK and customers and consumers can look forward to more big product news coming from Arla soon.”
