More than half of Americans lose energy and concentration during the afternoon, with 2:58 pm the time – on average – when people experience a so-called ‘energy crash’.
That’s according to a new nationwide survey, conducted by GfK KnowledgePanel and commissioned by California Almonds.
Survey respondents reported how they felt during the afternoon crash, with top responses including drowsy (66%), less productive (48%) and worn out (43%). But doing simple activities, such as a walking meeting, light and easy yoga stretches or reaching for a smart snack can help to power through this lull in the day, California Almonds said.
“The afternoon energy crash can lead to poor decision-making later in the day, including an unhealthy dinner or skipping the gym,” the company added.
It has teamed up with nutritionist Dawn Jackson Blatner to share easy ways in which consumers can avoid feeling tired and unproductive, as part of a new campaign called Carpe PM and Seize the Afternoon.
“No matter how busy you are or what your job entails, across the nation at about 2:58 pm, people are facing the afternoon crash,” Jackson Blatner said. “To combat the energy dip, I always recommend a smart and easy snack like a handful of healthy almonds – their fibre, protein and good fat can help anyone seize their afternoon!”
