I heard recently from some of the group about an unusual cake baker, Anne Nicodemus, who produces cakes using Bach Flower Remedies.
Honest 2 Goodness Bakery was set up by Anne to meet the need for delicious, wholesome and beautiful cakes. She began producing cupcakes (such as chocolate & beetroot, carrot & cardamom, sweet potato, cinnamon & rose, and courgette with lime & coconut, using 100% organic spelt flour and other organic ingredients) for outlets such as Sesame Health Foods and Trojka Russian & Eastern European Tea Rooms in Primrose Hill, London, Dalling delicatessen in Kings Langley, Merchant Tea & Coffee Company, and Secret Garden in St Albans.
“Our cakes always include the humble vegetable,” she explained, “giving a wonderful moist and light texture and subtle richness to the cake crumb. With the obvious nutritional benefits, and use of quality ingredients including 100% organic wholemeal and white spelt, organic unrefined sunflower oil, and golden caster sugar (but not too much), you are guaranteed deliciousness and a real talking point.”
Today, Anne has a face to face ‘listening’ space with clients, and it’s through this creative process that every cake reveals its perfect taste and look to ‘meet the emotion and spirit of the occasion’.
She creates cakes and cupcakes for large events as well as intimate ones, and caters for gluten-free, sugar free and dairy free needs. More recently, she has added Bach Flower Essences. These are ‘Conscious Cakes’ that are works of art crafted with soul and ‘made with the fullness of heart’.
A big thank you to my book group for their wonderful hosting, and how lovely to hear about ‘cakes with soul’.
So far in our hosting, we have had Chinese delicacies in connection with Wild Swans, shortbread, corn cakes and many more delectable treats. If any of you have great ideas for cakes connected to book themes, let’s share them!
