Bath Ales has bolstered its Sulis Collection with the new limited edition English single malt spirit, Gem Aqua Vitae. The new drink is made using a combination of floor malted barley and expert distilling techniques. At 42% ABV, it is the strongest product that Bath Ales has ever sold.
Distilled in collaboration with The English Spirit Distillery, the spirit includes gem wort – the product of the mashing process which starts every brew. After being extracted, the wort is sent to The English Spirit Distillery, where it gets distilled five times in copper pots.
“We’re very proud of the finished result as we feel this is something very special indeed,” said Roger Jones, executive chairman at Bath Ales. “With the launch of Beerd brewery last year – our experimental craft beer brewery – and now this, we’re continuing to evolve our range to keep surprising and delighting our customers and ourselves.”
Gem Aqua Vitae is a light spirit, with flavours of clove, liquorice and vanilla, and an aroma of honeysuckle. The new drink is limited to just 100 bottles for sale.
