Bear Nibbles has launched a sour version of its Yoyos fruit rolls for children in the UK, made with the addition of lemons.
The Super Sour Yoyos will be available this month in strawberry and apple, mango and apple, and blackcurrant and apple flavours. Each features lemons for the characteristically sour twist, while the range as a whole will seek to capitalise on the growing prevalence of sour flavours in children’s food, with sour confectionery up more than 40% year on year.
Brands have increasingly sought to incorporate adventurous and sophisticated flavours into children’s food.
The range will be available exclusively in Tesco stores this month, before rolling out across other major supermarkets across the UK later.
Emma Howgego, marketing director for Bear Nibbles, said: “Children love the fun that’s associated with sour foods and have a higher natural preference towards them, witnessed by the increasing emergence of sour recipes within confectionery.
“As obesity and sugar consumption issues escalate, we’re more and more determined to find solutions that make healthy eating genuinely fun and accessible, and it’s been incredibly encouraging to see the reaction to our new Yoyos.”
At the start of the month, the brand transformed the look of its Alphabites cereal with new bear packaging.
Its latest addition is free from added sugar, concentrates or preservatives and continues the brand’s commitment to making healthy eating fun and engaging for younger consumers. The ‘exciting flavour combinations and vibrant, standout packaging’, it said, would increase the brand’s appeal among children and go some way to achieving that.
The Super Sour Yoyos, each containing one of the five recommended portions of fruit and vegetables, will have a recommended price of £0.49 for a single 20g pack and £2.29 for a five-count multipack.
