Brazilian dairy cooperative Cooperoeste has started packing its Terra Viva UHT milk into 1 litre carton packs from SIG Combibloc, after investing in a filling machine from the European packaging equipment manufacturer.
The investment is part of Cooperoeste’s goal of optimising production costs and being able to offer food at affordable prices. The company, which is based in São Miguel do Oeste, in Santa Catarina state in the far west of the country, is using SIG’s CFA 512 filling machine to pack milk into CombiblocStandard packs.
Cooperoeste was founded 20 years ago to market products from the strongly agricultural region and combine strengths to improve profitability for dairy producers, with the goal of improving the social and economic situation of local communities. Under the Terra Viva brand, its portfolio now includes a range of UHT milk, various cheese products and pickled gherkins.
The newly installed CFA 512 filling machine is able to fill up to 12,000 carton packs an hour, with a high level of flexibility and efficiency, low water and energy consumption and minimal waste. Once the packs are filled, an automatic palletiser ensures that everything continues to run smoothly and efficiently during the subsequent stages. This new line configuration will mean a huge boost in productivity for Cooperoeste, SIG said.
The business represents SIG Combibloc’s latest customer in Brazil, after Brazilian dairy group Quatá installed six SIG Combibloc filling machines at its facility in Minas Gerais state last year.
