Average daily consumption has fallen from 9.5g to 8.1g in 2011. 42% of women and 20% of men are now achieving the recommended World Health Organisation target of no more than 6g a day.
Turn these figures upside down and, of course, there’s still a big problem, but the shift does show that concerted action by government and the food industry working together can make real progress.
