Camden Town Brewery – the craft beer maker owned by Anheuser-Busch – has developed a new rhubarb-flavoured IPA.
The new beer, called Foolish, is the result of the company’s recent #YourBeerHere competition, which crowdsources ideas for new brews. The rhubarb IPA – from Londoner Charlie Roper – was inspired by homemade rhubarb fool and the limited-time beer was created using 100kg of Yorkshire-grown forced rhubarb.
The rhubarb is grown in a famed area of West Yorkshire called ‘the Rhubarb Triangle’, where the vegetable is cultivated in the traditional way by hand and by candlelight and prizes for its subtle flavour.
Roper joined the Camden Town beer team earlier this month for a full day of brewing, taking part in every step of the process from malting to mashing and even designing his beer’s artwork with the brewery’s in-house design team.
Foolish rhubarb IPA is described as ‘an unfiltered, fresh and tart beer’ with a punchy rhubarb aroma and sharp taste with enough malt backbone to deliver the classic IPA flavour.
It will be available on draught for a limited time at Camden Town Brewery’s pubs in London, and all profits from the sale of the beer will be donated to humanitarian aid charity Médecins Sans Frontières, which was chosen by the competition winner.
