US fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A has started to offer consumers a new line of cold-brew iced coffee, claiming to be “one of the only fast food restaurants in the industry to offer a premium method of brewing its iced coffee to guests at an affordable price”.
The cold-brew coffees are prepared using a process wherein the hot-brewed coffee is cooled and then iced. It is never heated, Chick-fil-A said, instead infusing coffee grounds with cooler, filtered water and steeped for up to 24 hours to create a concentrate that is naturally sweeter with low acidity and bitterness.
The concentrate is bottled, sent to the restaurants and made to order with freshmilk, pure cane syrup and ice. Available in original and vanilla, the cold-brewed coffee is available in 16oz. and 20oz. servings and priced from $2.29 and $2.59 respectively.
And in case this wasn’t clear enough, the restaurant chain has produced an infographic explaining the brewing process and highlighting why its cold-brew coffees were different to other available offerings.
Chick-fil-A senior consultant of menu development for beverages and dessert Matt Abercrombie said: “Our cold-brew process keeps the integrity of the coffee flavour and gives customers a more hand-crafted taste that we are excited to share. Cold-brew coffee is offered as a standard menu option for our guests. It is a great addition to breakfast or as an afternoon pick-me-up.”
