Coca-Cola Bottling Company United has invested $67m in the opening of a new distribution centre and regional headquarters in Tennessee.
The 305,000 square foot facility in Chattanooga will distribute around 680 product lines to markets in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia, and has a distribution capacity of around 5,600 cases of Coca-Cola products every hour. That is, in part, due to new automated systems including automated picking software in the warehouse.
The investment signals the climactic point in a years-long process to upgrade Coca-Cola Bottling Company United’s facilities in Chattanooga, in the south of the state, where it provides more than 250 jobs.
“The world’s first bottler deserves to be in Chattanooga,” Stan Ellington, vice-president of supply chain and operations for Coca-Cola Bottling Company United told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “There’s a lot of heritage in Chattanooga.”
