The annual awards, which celebrate responsible business practices by leading companies, were held on 3 May in London on the opening day of the Responsible Business Summit 2011.
Coca-Cola Hellenic was shortlisted in the best collaboration category for its key role in The Green Danube Partnership, alongside The Coca-Cola Company and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR).
The Green Danube Partnership seeks to protect and preserve the Danube – one of the world’s most endangered rivers – its tributaries and the natural habitats through which they flow. Since 2005, the Partnership has helped restore wetlands, providing critical habitat for flora and fauna, and supported better river basin management, as well as leading extensive public awareness campaigns.
The Green Danube Partnership delivers coordinated conservation, education and awareness-raising activities regularly throughout the year, but reaches an annual climax on ‘Danube Day’, the largest river festival in the world, on 29 June.
On Danube Day in 2010, the Partnership brought together more than 480 organisations, from NGOs to local authorities, to help run 140 events. These included scientific seminars, roundtables, eco-camps, community clean-ups and traditional cultural entertainment.
