In New Zealand, Constellation Brands has revealed pans to invest NZD 50m ($32.82m) in the expansion of its Marlborough winery in Blenheim.
The winemaker will add a new “tank farm” at its Drylands winery, fitted out with a range of winemaking equipment, as it seeks to keep pace with increasing global demand for the company’s Marlborough sauvignon blanc. The expansion will also see the addition of a laboratory, waste treatment area and new facilities for employees.
Work on the site will be completed during the next three years and provide a “significant” boost to Marlborough’s revenues, the brand said.
Constellation Brands New Zealand managing director Sam Glaetzer said: “To keep up with this growing demand, we need to ensure we have the right sized winemaking facilities in our very important Marlborough region.
“We have worked closely with the Marlborough District Council over several years to evaluate expansion options.
“After considering alternative options, such as developing a new site or further expanding our Riverlands winery, our Drylands site was a clear preference for both the council and us.”
The move follows an earlier $17m expansion to the winery in 2014, which saw the installation of four 500,000 litre tanks and 28 200,000 litre tanks that took the site’s capacity from 14m litres to 20m litres.
