Groupe Danone has rejected claims that it’s interested in acquiring Italy’s Paramalat. The rumours, which persisted at the end of May, boosted Parmalat’s shares by 4.6% – their highest levels since September 2008.

Co-chief operating officer, Emmanuel Faber, told reporters that Danone will remain on the look-out for smaller deals after it completes raising its capital by €3bn through its new rights issue. Faber added that Danone is keeping an eye out for deals in its core businesses, which are dairy, health and infant nutrition, as well as bottled water.
