Danone to pull Taillefine bottled water from shelves by end of 2009

Groupe Danone is to remove its Taillefine bottled water brand from the shelves by the end of the year, because it’s not in compliance with European regulations on bottled water.
Launched in 2001, Taillefine – enriched with calcium and magnesium – complied with regulations at that time, which accepted enrichment, said a spokesperson for the group. But in 2006, European legislation was introduced prohibiting the addition of minerals. These regulations were incorporated into French law in 2007.
The website Rue89 website broke the story on 4 May and Group Danone later confirmed that it had already ceased production and that all stocks would be cleared by the end of 2009.
Other products in the Taillefine brand range are unaffected. The wellness brand was originally launched as long ago as 1964, with a 0% fat cheese – the world’s first reduced fat product. Biscuits, cereals and yogurts also appear in the range.
