Dean Foods has expanded its non-dairy portfolio with the acquisition of juice brand Uncle Matt’s Organic.
The dairy specialist claimed the move marks its commitment to healthy and organic foods.
US company Uncle Matt’s sells a range of organic juices and fruit waters. As part of the deal, founder of the brand, Matt McLean, will work with Dean Foods to continue its leadership into the future.
“Joining Dean Foods allows me to continue to nurture the brand I started nearly 20 years ago,” he said.
“Our mission has always been to produce the highest quality organic juices. Becoming part of Dean Foods will allow us to bring organic to consumers at a scale that supports the organic farming community and increasing consumer interests at the same time.”
Uncle Matt’s, which produces its products free from GMOs, synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, will continue to operate its business out of its offices in Florida.
Dean Foods CEO Ralph Scozzafava said: “I am pleased to welcome Uncle Matt’s Organic into the Dean Foods family. As a strong brand in an adjacent category, Uncle Matt’s will play an important role in our growing portfolio of healthy products.
“Dean Foods is committed to supporting Uncle Matt’s product innovation efforts and their ongoing development and growth in the natural channel. Moreover, our core strengths in selling and distribution will enable consumers [to have] unprecedented access to Uncle Matt’s delicious, on-trend line of products.”
Last month, Dean Foods further expanded its portfolio by taking a minority stake in Good Karma Foods, the US producer of flaxseed-based milk and yogurt alternatives.
