Elopak’s Sveinar Kildal reiterated Elopak’s commitment to cut CO2 emissions with 15% by 2010.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Climate Savers scheme mobilises the world’s major corporations to cut carbon dioxide. Leading organisations are partnered with WWF to establish ambitious targets to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
By 2010, the Climate Savers companies will collectively cut carbon emissions by some 14 million tonnes annually – the equivalent of taking more than three million cars off the road every year. By increasing efficiency, Climate Savers companies are saving hundreds of millions of dollars.
Sveinar Kildal, director global environment, said: “The Climate Savers programme gives Elopak the confidence to speak publicly about its sustainability. By being a Climate Saver, Elopak officially acknowledges that climate change is real. It reinforces that Elopak also understands that the effects of climate change could be irreversible on a global scale and that inactivity today will create a bigger problem for our children tomorrow.
“Although the beverage carton has a favourable CO2 footprint, we know the industry has an impact on the environment. Elopak has set its targets for improvement in all areas of its business, from processing to transport and energy consumption. Elopak’s main objective is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses through improving energy efficiency at all its sites around the world, while maintaining profitable growth. As a major global player in a socially responsible industry, Elopak is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and will be held to its promises by the world’s most active and credible environmental organisation, the WWF.”
