The European Bottled Watercooler Association (EBWA) has announced that former chairman Ian Painter has left the organisation.

Formerly European technical & supply chain director at Nestlé Waters Direct, Ian has decided to return to Hong Kong for personal reasons and left Nestlé Waters at the end of December 2009.

Current EBWA chairman Yariv Shapira said: “Ian played a significant role in forming and managing our industry association. He has been a member of the EBWA Execo for eight years, and his term as president marked a major improvement in how we’re organised, and produced some of the most fruitful meetings and events we have yet seen.”

Ian’s past industry positions included:

  • President of the International Council of Bottled Water Associations (ICBWA) from 2008 to 2009, and previously vice president and treasurer.
  • Board member of the European Federation of Bottled Waters (EFBW) from 2005 to 2007.
  • President of EBWA from 2006 to 2007, and previously vice president and treasurer.
  • Executive board member of Asian Bottle Water Association 1996.

Ian joined the manufacturing division of AS Watson in 1989 as production manager, responsible for its beverage and ice cream manufacturing operations in Hong Kong and China.

In 1997, he was promoted to production director and managed its industrial strategy during the expansion of the water business in Europe. In 2002, he was seconded to the UK as global production director and managed the expansion of the Powwow waters business in Europe. In 2003, after being acquired by Nestlé, he was appointed technical & supply chain director.

“We would like to thank Ian for his outstanding involvement and significant contribution to the development of the European Bottled Watercooler Association and global industry relations,” Yariv added.
