Food retailer Pod has launched a fresh range of juices, with the added twist that they have been prepared using “wonky” fruit and vegetables in a drive to make the most of unwanted food.
The fruit and vegetables often get rejected by supermarkets and food retailers, Pod explained, even though they are just as full of flavour as their better looking counterparts. The launch of the new juices is therefore a small part of Pod’s effort to contribute to a reduction in food waste across its 22 London restaurants, it added.
The 250ml range includes a carrot, orange and ginger juice to help consumers “get the glow” through prevention of cell damage; a beetroot, apple and ginger blend that promotes heart health and good circulation; a “unique” master cleanse provides an innovative, detoxifying elixir consisting of a simple but highly effective blend of cayenne pepper, agave, lemon and water to help flush the body of toxins; and finally a freshly squeezed orange juice, the staple immune booster, which delivers one of the five recommended daily portions of fruit and vegetables.
In the 500ml range, the hydrating lemon quencher supports cognitive function while the iced green tea caters to consumers with a sweeter tooth, having been naturally sweetened with honey.
The juices are made with 100% natural ingredients and are free from additives, preservatives, concentrates and added sugar, Pod said.
