FreshSurety has announced the launch of beta field trials for its Assured Freshness system in cooperation with leading producers and grocery retailers.
Assured Freshness employs proprietary internet of things technology to measure and report fresh produce’s quality and shelf-life throughout the supply chain. This enables retailers to manage sourcing, inventory and merchandising based upon the actual shelf-life of each pallet.
Tom Schultz, FreshSurety CEO, said: “For the first time in history producers and retailers will know shelf-life and value of every pallet anywhere in the supply chain. This information will transform the industry by reducing waste and improving quality to the consumer.”
The system uses low-cost chemical sensors to measure metabolites emitted by fresh produce as it ages. This data is transmitted to the cloud where it is converted by product-specific food spoilage algorithms into a quantitative freshness score for individual cartons and pallets.
Assured Freshness information can be used to check product quality at the packer, track quality performance through the supply chain, and assure freshness and shelf life upon delivery to the retailer distribution centre.
The system includes a light bar on each produce pallet that signals real time product quality and remaining shelf life. Assured Freshness information is collected every ten minutes throughout the life of each pallet and includes temperature, humidity, and pallet geolocation. This delivers unmatched product traceability and enables companywide supply chain performance optimisation.
