A company that provides fine dining to owners of private jets has expanded to cater to clients in their homes and at special venues around London, as it seeks to take advantage of the city’s large concentration of high net worth individuals.
On Air Dining sources the finest ingredients from around the world, as well as artisanal products from across the UK. The business, which has previously only provided food to the private jet industry, has seen growth of 200% and expects to more than double its turnover during 2016.
The firm’s in-home offering will include a new dish created for the television documentary The World’s Most Expensive Food. It consists of mahogany and soft shell clams set in a jelly made from its juices, Beluga caviar, sweetcorn puree, umami sponge, crispy onion, Japanese sea weed and oyster leaves, clam chowder foam and golden fennel pollen. Each dish will cost around £190 – or if the client would like to include green sea urchins from the Arctic Circle served live at the table, it will cost around £300 per person.
Other foods available as part of On Air Dining’s menu include a new dessert made from the world’s rarest coffee beans, costing up to £600 per person.
On Air Dining chief executive Daniel Hulme said: “Where possible, as a business we pride ourselves on sourcing the very best local ingredients and produce. The UK produces amazing, world class produce that is giving the ‘foodie’ countries a real run for their money. This produce takes a huge amount of love, care and investment, and that is why some of it has a huge price tag.”
The influx of high net worth individuals has made London a centre of expensive food and helped to drive On Air Dining’s growth in the private market, with further room to capitalise in home, Hulme said.
He explained: “There are now around 80 billionaires living in London alone, 11% more than in 2014, and the number of ultra-high net worth individuals – worth at least $30m – living in the capital is 7% higher than in 2014.
“Many of these people use private jets and it has helped fuel strong growth in our business, and we are now able to prepare food for them at their homes and elsewhere.”
