Gourmosa has launched a range of premium Indian snacks, including the first fully bakeable samosas with 50% less fat than their fried counterparts.
The health-focussed range includes baked samosas, samosa pots and samosa pies – all available in chicken tikka, spicy beef and masala paneer varieties – as well as three bean, spicy fruit and chana chaat pots. The samosas have a recommended retail price of between £3.50 and £3.75, with the samosa pots and pies selling for between £2.25 and £2.99 and the chaat pots coming in at between £2.50 and £2.75.
After an initially positive reaction from retailers, the products, which are made at Gourmosa’s facility in Leeds, has secured its first listing with supermarket chain Asda. The multiple will stock the food-to-go range in selected stores across London.
The range is inspired by traditional Indian food, but has been updated for today’s health-conscious market, taking some of the most popular snacks from the subcontinent and upgrading them using superfoods and new cooking techniques. The result is a range of great-tasting products, bursting with authentic flavour and beneficial spices without compromise, the brand said.
Gourmosa founder Azam Jaafri said: “I love snacks from the Indian subcontinent, however over time I’ve become more health conscious. Traditional snacks taste great and they’re full of beneficial spices but they are almost always fried, high in salt, sugar and fat. I created Gourmosa with the vision of producing mouthwatering snacks from the subcontinent that are no longer fried and packed with superfoods and beneficial spices.”
Talking about the importance of incorporating healthy messaging into the range, Jaafri added: “Health is very important, consumers are now much more health conscious. Research shows a significant increase in the number of people checking labels for salt, sugar and fat content. There has also been an increase in awareness of the health benefits associated with fresh ingredients, superfoods and spices.
“Our range is innovative and relevant, we are paving the way for the next generation of ethnic food products.”
