Greenpeace hijacks Nestlé shareholders meeting

Shaun Weston16 Apr 2010

Greenpeace campaigners have abseiled into a Nestlé shareholders meeting, according to reports, urging the company to stop using palm oil harvested from rainforest destruction.

An AFP photographer saw the two activists break through the roof and abseil into the hall with mountaineering gear.

They hung a banner that said, ‘Nestlé, Give the orangutans a break!’, and dangled about 20 metres above the shareholders’ heads as the meeting continued.

“We’re here today to tell Nestlé to change its KitKatastrophic policies,” said Pat Venditti, Greenpeace’s international head of forest campaigns, in a statement. “We’re urging shareholders to use their influence to ensure Nestlé’s products are completely free from Sinar Mas palm oil and paper products.”

How can one add an opinion if you don’t have the facts? Where is this info from Patti Rundel coming from? Who is she and what are the basis of her terrible claim? As far I can see, pretty nervy of such an action! Who are you?

We applaud the Greenpeace action at the Nestle Agm, but remind readers that Nestle continues to put children’s lives at risk with its baby milk marketing policies. Please visit our website to see our press release and my intervention which I made following Greenpeace. — Patti Rundall, policy director, Baby Milk Action.
