Greggs has been named ‘Specialist Sandwich Chain of the Year’, at last night's British Sandwich Industry Awards, beating Pret A Manger, Subway and O'Briens to the title.
The British Sandwich Association (BSA) said the award recognises those who set the highest standard in retailing sandwiches, through product range, innovation and marketing as well as presentation in-shop.
Greggs chief executive, Ken McMeikan, who accepted the award, said: "To be named the best sandwich chain is fantastic.
"The award will mean so much to our bakers who take enormous pride in baking the bread for our sandwiches; our shop teams who lovingly prepare the sandwiches by hand every single day; and the enthusiastic teams who develop our range and make sure we are providing customers with a fabulous choice.
"It’s all the more special to receive this award in the 250th Anniversary Year of the Sandwich."
