Dr Kevin Fong looked at the medical revolution that promises to help us live healthier lives: are we doing our 10,000 steps a day, and are we sleeping well? It seems there are apps and gadgets to measure these and they are becoming more popular every day.
He joined a trial group of three women who were keen to lose weight and live a healthier life. They all adjusted their lives after using the apps, some cutting down on wine and caffeine, and others upping their exercise levels. It made for fascinating viewing, and of course they all slept better as a result.
Fong goes to meet the most monitored man in the world – a doctor himself – who, through looking at the levels of various minerals in his body, discovered abnormal spikes which, after some research, indicated Crohn’s disease. How long will it be before we are all able to detect and prevent life-threatening diseases and affect the length of our lives?
It was noted by one doctor that ‘this is just day zero of the new age of measurement and preventability’. So, it’s early days as yet, but good to know that we can be part of it.
