Scottish craft brewer Innis & Gunn has launched a new bourbon-infused pale ale that will “evoke classic American pale ale flavours”, the company has said.
New 6% ABV Bourbon pale ale is made using the magnum, perle and cascade varietals of hops. It is then aged over bourbon-infused American heartwood oak with a resulting beer that possesses a true bourbon taste with a crisp, refreshing finish flavoured with a hint of marzipan. The new beer will launch in supermarket chain Tesco, alongside other independent stores, from early next month with a recommended retail price of £1.99.
The Edinburgh-based brewer, who, in June, announced that it would be opening a new chain of bars and restaurants named The Beer Kitchen, has recommended pairing the ale with spicy Thai cuisines or slow-cooked barbecue food.
Innis & Gunn founder Dougal Sharp said: “We’re excited to launch our Bourbon pale ale and as far as beers go, it’s as American as they come – minus the cheerleaders and high-fives (sadly). It’s been a labour of love to nail the true depth of bourbon flavour but by using American heartwood oak in our ageing process we’re pretty confident this beer is a true American beauty.”
