A raspberry saison (left) will be joined by a barrel-aged imperial stout later in the year.
Craft brewer Innis & Gunn will launch two small-batch, limited-edition beers in the US.
The seasonal brews will mark the beginning of two new beer series: one called Latitude and Longitude, which is launching this month, and a second called Vanishing Point that will be available this autumn.
Matured in bourbon barrels with Scottish raspberries, Innis & Gunn’s raspberry saison is the first beer brewed from its Latitude and Longitude series. The series takes inspiration from the world’s most popular beer styles – including Belgium’s saison – which have all been given an Innis & Gunn twist.
Innis & Gunn US general manager Neil Innis Sharp said: “We’ve stayed true to the saison style, brewing the beer with ale and acid malt, then fermenting it with a wild yeast. Then we’ve matured the beer in bourbon barrels to which we added heaps of Scottish raspberries. The raspberry saison is delicious, refreshing, and unique – perfect for warm weather days. There is an amazing raspberry and elderflower aroma, and depth and warmth from the barrel maturation, with a clean, flinty finish.”
Soon to follow will be Vanishing Point 01, an imperial stout matured in bourbon barrels for six months. The barrels and brewing ingredients are hand selected and chosen for flavour – with fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, coconut and vanilla all coming through in this latest brew, Innis & Gunn said.
It’s not the first time that the Scottish brewery has experimented with popular barrel-aged offerings. In February, it collaborated with Irish whiskey producer Teeling to create a limited-edition stout, aged in barrels formerly used to mature Teeling’s small-batch whiskey. It had already released a bourbon-infused American pale ale in 2015.
Both beers will be served in 500ml bottles, imported into the US by United States Beverage.
Georgia Homsany, senior brand director for US Beverage, commented: “As the pioneers of barrel-age brewing, Innis & Gunn continues in its quest to brew innovative, delicious beers that showcase the very best of Scottish brewing craft. We are delighted to work with our wholesaler and retail partners to bring these beers to the American beer drinker.”
