When taking a look at the healthy snack category one of the more interesting products are those that use insects, FoodBev Media’s Darren Wood explored the use of cricket flour in Yumpa, a natural energy bar containing 7g of protein.
When asked about why the use of crickets, founder Tony Askins said: “Crickets are the most sustainable form of animal protein, if you give a load of crickets a kilo of feed you get 470g of edible weight whereas for a cow you get 40g.
“They’re also healthy, containing between 60-70% protein with loads of micro-nutrients.”
