Jobs at risk as Adams Foods closes Somerset operations

Rebecca Prescott23 Jan 2012

Following discussions with its local workforce, Adams Foods (UK) has confirmed that it is to cease its operations in Wincanton over the coming months.

It has decided to consolidate cheese packing to its state of the art facility at Leek in Staffordshire. This proposal was first made at the start of December last year, a key factor being the availability of spare capacity in Leek at a time when its Wincanton facility required additional investment.

As a result the Wincanton facility will close and it is expected that at least 50 of its 180 staff will have the opportunity to redeploy to Leek. Discussions are continuing with staff impacted by the decision. In order to ensure that as much support as possible is given to staff leaving the business, the statutory redundancy entitlement is being doubled, subject to certain conditions being met, the company said.
