John Gordon wins SCAE Latte Art 09

John Gordon, a barista for coffee specialists Ristretto, scooped first prize at the UK leg of the SCAE World Latte Art and Coffee in Good Spirits Championships at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The event was supported by SanRemo who provided the company’s Verona as the official championship espresso machines for the competition.
Gordon’s winning design was a macchiato decorated with a single-leaf tulip, an intricate design that has taken nearly three years to perfect.

“A tulip is a very difficult pattern, which very few people are able to master,” said Gordon. “I’ve been working on this every day, and then about six months ago it all seemed to fall into place. I realised that I could recreate the perfect pattern every time. It was then that other people encouraged me to enter the competition. I was particularly thrilled to win, especially as this was the first time I had entered the competition.”
John Gordon is originally from Australia and has been living in the UK for two years. During this time, he’s worked for Ristretto as a barista and field engineer. In his role, Gordon has used many machines and said that, “SanRemo’s are the best to work on. They’re user friendly and I would recommend them to all.”
Gordon will automatically go on to represent the UK in the World SCAE Latte Art and Coffee in Good Spirits finals, which are held in Cologne, Germany on 26–28 June 09.
Andrew Tucker, managing director of SanRemo, said: “It’s great to have such an artistic and deserving winner. We’re thrilled with John’s feedback on our machines and wish him every success in Cologne.”
