Kingsland Drinks has developed a range of premium British wines in an attempt to ‘bring a fresh look’ to the wine category.
The Willow & Stone collection, which was named to sound as typically British as possible, comprises a white, rosé and rosé fizz varietal.
The wines were created in response to research from Kingsland’s proprietary research tool, WinePro, which suggested that there was unmet demand for an affordable, fresh-tasting wine for spontaneous occasions.
Wine expert João Pedro Montes told FoodBev last month that marketing bottles of wine to individual occasions was the key to unlocking growth and increased sales, as consumers don’t care about where their wine comes from or which grape varietal is used to make it.
“Nowadays, consumers opt for wine as a drink of pleasure, capable of enhancing the sensorial aspects of a good lunch or dining event with family or friends,” Montes said.
In July, Kingsland Drinks launched a carbonated version of its Shorn New Zealand pinot grigio, after installing a carbonation line at its site in the UK that is capable of filling between 12,600 and 15,000 bottles per hour.
Kingsland Drinks marketing controller Jo Taylorson said: “We know from our research that the beginners, or millennials, are looking for wines that will suit multiple usage occasions: at home, dinner with friends or as a gift. Willow & Stone answers that need. We were also able to create a premium tasting fizz using our carbonation line which responds to the increased thirst for sparkling products.”
The range features a recommended retail price of £3.39 for the still varieties and £3.99 for the fizz, and is available now.
