Vinnie Jones (centre) amassed more than 300 caps for London-based clubs during his playing career.
The London Crisp Company has enlisted former Premier League footballer Vinnie Jones as its global brand ambassador.
The artisan crisp producer, which aims to rival mainstream brands like Walkers, has now matched Walkers with its own sporting mascot. The crisp giant has been associated with former footballer Gary Lineker since 1995.
Jones, who gained 177 caps for Wimbledon, will be the face of the brand as it aims to take a bite out of the £1 billion UK crisp market.
The London Crisp Company has also taken a leaf out of Walkers’ book by renaming one of their flavours ‘salt and Vinnie-gar’; Walkers previously did the same when they renamed their salt and vinegar flavour ‘salt and Lineker’ in the late-90s.
“Vinnie Jones and Gary Lineker are set to reignite their – at times fiery – football rivalry,” the London Crisp Company said.
During his time as a player, Jones was renowned for his full-blooded style of play and temperament.
Founder and managing director Tom Lock said: “Britain’s best-loved hard man is the perfect inspiration for the London Crisp Company’s classic flavour. Our salt and Vinnie-gar crisps are a no-nonsense flavour with a classic crunch, and Vinnie’s links with London (he was born and raised in Watford, and had two playing spells with Wimbledon, and one with [fellow London club] Queen’s Park Ranges), make him our ideal partner as we look to grow to expand internationally and become a major player in the UK snack market.
“As well as being the face of his very own flavour, he will also be appearing in advertising and promotional activities over the coming months.”
