McDonald’s logo going green in Europe
With the Copenhagen climate change summit fast approaching, McDonald’s has decided to go green.
At German branches of the US fast-food chain, the famous golden arches will be emblazoned on a green background rather than its usual red, McDonald’s Germany vice president Holger Beeck said.
The change would be made on all new and refitted restaurants “out of respect for the environment”, Beeck told the Financial Times Deutschland.
The instantly recognisable logo is the world’s sixth most valuable brand according to a 2009 report by Interbrand consultancy, behind only Coca-Cola, IBM, Microsoft, General Electric and Nokia. A study earlier this month showed that McDonald’s was the most popular brand for Germans between the ages of 12 and 18.
About 100 German McDonald’s restaurants will make the change by the end of 2009, the company said in a statement. Some franchises in Great Britain and France have already started using the new colour scheme behind their Golden Arches.
“This is not only a German initiative but a Europewide initiative,” said Martin Nowicki, McDonald’s Germany spokesman, to Associated Press.
The US burger giant has more than 32,000 restaurants in 118 countries and has long been targeted by activists as being environmentally unfriendly. In recent years, the company has warmed to ‘greener’ practices, including environmentally friendly refrigeration, and converting used oil into biodiesel fuel.

I think the red color is more attractive than green yet color green is fresher than red. No matter how the colors differ, it is always the Mcdonald that give it best. McDonald’s will be serving up jobs at a record clip this month, states MSNBC. McDonald’s will employ as much as 50,000 people in-restaurant and via its corporate website on April 19.
