McVitie’s biscuits triumph at IGD awards

United Biscuits (UBUK) has been awarded the Wellness Award by the IGD for its commitment to offering consumers healthier products.

Its 50% reduction in saturated fat across three of its McVitie’s brands was recognised by the IGD at the IGD Food Industry Awards 2009 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on 13 October.

UBUK was praised for redeveloping three of its biscuit lines in all their formats:

  • McVitie’s Digestives
  • McVitie’s Rich Tea
  • McVitie’s HobNobs.

Alice Cadman, head of strategic projects at UBUK, said: “We’re delighted to be recognised by the IGD for our efforts. Health and nutrition is an area we take extremely seriously and this award is a culmination of three years of hard work and a £6m investment. We’ll continue to improve and upgrade our products to offer our customers products that are in line with the latest consumer requirements and will generate extra sales and profit opportunities for retailers.”

Joanne Denney-​Finch, chief executive, IGD said: “This year’s finalists have shown that, even in challenging times, innovation and best practice are at the forefront of the industry.
