The product was released in selected stores in Colorado in January, ahead of a New Mexico launch in February.
“Because the product is so different, we’ve had a tough time convincing distributors to pick us up, but slowly they’re coming around as more and more people demand the vodka distilled from milk,” said Garren Vissar, president of Leche Spirits.
“Once you try it, you’ll know you’re drinking something in a category of its own.”
The vodka is 40% abv and described as having a ‘full bodied taste’ with a ‘clean sweet finish’.
“My family has been in the dairy industry for generations going all the way back to The Netherlands,” Vissar said. “Milk money has always been used in a lot of different ways, but mostly, it’s what puts the bread on the table.
“It also has a strong nostalgic effect along with the bottle to give that feeling of better days, when all you needed was a little milk money – being carefree and knowing you have enough to get by.”
Leche Spirits hired Saxco International to design the packaging to replicate a traditional milk bottle, which along with the brand name is designed to create a nostalgic effect. Saxco delivered with a bottle from Vetreria Etrusca that has the shape and feel of an old milk bottle. The company expanded on the theme with a black and white design patterned after the Holstein cow, screen printed by Serigraphie Richford.
