Modern muesli maker Cuckoo has appointed Neil Burchell as its new director, as the breakfast brand seeks to expand its position in the UK.
Burchell has almost 20 years’ experience in the food and drink industry, including as director of yogurt and dessert brand Rachel’s Organic for seven years. He has been brought in to drive growth for the company and plan strategically for future expansion during an important year, the company said.
Cuckoo launched in 2013 and has since secured listings with Waitrose, Selfridges, Harvey Nicholas and train operator First Great Western.
Available in five flavours – mango and coconut, apple and cinammon spice, elderflower and cranberry, choco sour cherry, and apricot and Madagascan vanilla – its range of wholesome Bircher muesli products retail for £1.99 for a 190g single-serve pot. Each serving contains nearly a third of the guideline daily intake of beta-glucan, which can help to lower cholesterol when consumed as part of a healthy diet.
Cuckoo co-founders Anna Mackenzie and Lucy Wright said: “2015 marks a fundamental year for Cuckoo’s development and Neil Burchell’s extensive knowledge of the food industry is indispensable. We are delighted that Neil joins us at a time when we are focusing on accelerated growth.”
