We began the afternoon well by winning the AEG Cooking Class – making chargrilled chicken and beetroot and bulgar wheat salad – under the watchful eye of Daylesford Organics’ Steve Brown, thanks to some neat and symmetrical plating up – cheers Bill.
We were then in need of both a beverage and something sweet and the first stand we came to was the Good4UNutrition stand complete with their latest launch of Supergreen Superbites. These are sweet little balls of dates, sunflower seeds, quinoa puffs, chia seeds, oat bran, spinach powder, alfalfa, seaweed, orange juice and natural flavourings. Presented in a little plastic 80g pot they are light to carry around and designed to give you a tasty little boost of sweetness and energy, while on the go, without the crash associated with most sweet stuff.
They also make Banana & Cocoa and Strawberry & Vanilla options but although the Supergreens name might be offputting to some, the taste was surprisingly moreish and comforting.
Another move in confectionery, ready to run alongside new flavours wonders in macarons is that of marshmallows. Natural coconut, natural strawberry and natural raspberry were just visible on the stand through a jostling mound of festival revelers These were beautifully presented – all packaged together with nutty and floral decorations on top – making them mini works of art.
Finally I have to mention the new flavours in porridge pots at the event, made by porridge impressarios Simply SeedZ – not just the date and apricot and apple and cinnamon blends but dark, chocolate and ginger – now that’s how to spice up a Monday morning with a little luxury – breakfast with a touch of confectionery – or then again it could be supper.
