British condiments brand The Bay Tree has launched a new type of conserve that combines marmalade with jam.
The company’s new ‘marmajam’ has the potential to forge ‘an entirely new category of preserves’, it said.
The two marmajams – blueberry and lemon, and strawberry and orange – are cleverly adapted recipes that combine the sweetness of soft summer fruits with a citrus edge to deliver ‘extra flavour’, The Bay Tree claimed. It has made the spreads available in 200g jars to help reduce wastage.
Founder Emma Macdonald said: “As a producer you strive to generate interesting products that people find intriguing. Inspiration can come from the most unlikely places and sometimes you just have to trust your instincts about what will and won’t work. At The Bay Tree, our mission is to make the ordinary extraordinary, and that means helping people discover new ways of serving and eating preserves.”
The Bay Tree will run an online campaign called Seven Day Serve to help consumers find exciting recipe ideas for using up a jar within a week.
Macdonald continued: “We want to encourage our customers to share their ideas and we’ll be contributing our own recipes that the team have developed as well.”
