Non-alcohol gin and tonic The Duchess will be unveiled in the UK in September as the brand looks to tap into the luxury soft drinks market.
The Duchess was launched in South Africa last year and is branded as a sugar-free alternative to drinking alcohol. It will be distributed in the UK by Love Drinks.
Sold in 275ml bottles, the beverage is created by blending re-distilled juniper berries with botanically infused tonic water.
The company claimed that this gives the drink a gin and tonic taste, and also adds layers of orange peel, all spice and star anise.
Founder of the company Johannes Le Roux said: “The Duchess was created for the conscious consumer – the healthy, discerning individual who wants the option of an adult beverage without alcohol.
“Whether at a business lunch or being the designated driver, for personal or religious reasons, The Duchess now offers you the choice of a sugar-free, calorie-free, and hangover-free refreshment.”
“Obviously the taste was the number one priority – the drink had to taste exactly like an alcoholic version of a gin and tonic – and we tried many variants before going with the liquid we have now.
“One of our secret ingredients is the botanicals that we add to the tonic water. The botanicals were formulated by my aunt, a local botanist, who often experiments with herbs and botanicals found in South Africa. Once she added a few drops of the botanicals, we knew that the flavour was perfect.”
