Fast food chain Pizza Hut has launched a series of festive activations in its UK stores, including a secret menu item and a button that will let consumers choose when Christmas has begun.
The exclusive ‘press for Christmas’ buttons will launch in five restaurants across the UK on 6 and 7 December, empowering guests to start celebrating Christmas ‘on their terms’.
One button will feature in each restaurant and, when pressed, customers will be gifted with a seasonal goodie box including a number of fun props and gifts – from elf hats to Pizza Hut vouchers – to enjoy during their meal. Guests will also be able to get their hands on a free festive chocolate and orange milkshake, with only a limited number of boxes available to claim nationwide.
The promotion is designed as a response to the encroachment of Christmas, with Pizza Hut saying that consumers are tired with festive marketing starting earlier each year.
The company’s research found that, on average, British consumers are happy to start celebrating Christmas from 6 December.
Its chocolate and orange milkshake will also be launched as a secret menu item, available to order in Pizza Hut stores nationwide by whispering the phrase ‘tastes like Christmas’ to waiting staff.
The chain will also enhance its Christmas experience by banning what it called the five worst and most nauseating Christmas songs played during the festive season. They include tracks from children’s characters Mr Blobby and Alvin and the Chipmunks, as well as the likes of David Hasselhoff and Madonna.
Kath Austin, director of HR and marketing for Pizza Hut Restaurants, said: “Christmas can be a chaotic time of year, so we want to do as much as we can to ease the pressure for our customers and provide escapism from the festive frenzy this Christmas, when needed.
“We’re all different when it comes to pinpointing the date when we’re finally ready to ‘press the Christmas button’ and really get into the Christmassy mood. We hope that by giving our customers this freedom that we will help to put some of the joy back into this hectic time of year.”
