Claire Phoenix spoke with Britvic Commercial Director for the Out of Home category Nigel Paine on the launch of J20 Spritz, as sparkling beverage aimed at the adult soft drink sector.
“The Food and drink market is massive and in growth with increasing spend on premium experiences,” he said. Adults currently spend around £27.5bn on drinks, of which £15bn is on soft drinks.
J2O juice drinks are already the number one bar call in the UK, selling six bottles a second. While J2O Spritz is a further move into the adult taste palate having similar properties to sparkling wine and champagne but without the alcohol. It offers a combination of two fruits and low carbonation but has less than 55 calories a bottle.
Flavours include pear and raspberry, peach and apricot, apple and watermelon and the target age range is 25-35. The perfect serve is apparently a champagne flute to raise the sensory perception and sense of occasion and bars will be encouraged to use these.
At the launch, David Crompton of House of Gastrophonic introduced a sensory immersive experience to accompany the launch. He is known for providing music from The Wilderness food festival and you can listen to an interview with him on FoodBev.com.
J2O Spritz is available in pubs and bars in a stylish 257ml glass and in the retail “take home” sector in a 750ml sharing bottle with the idea of bringing Spritz to the masses.
