Propercorn is preparing to tap into the trend in nuts with the launch of a new smooth peanut and almond-flavoured popcorn.
Launching this month, the gluten-free addition combines sweet almonds with protein-rich peanuts to offer an “intensity of flavour” and appeal to an increasingly health-conscious consumer base, the company said.
It is the latest flavour innovation from Propercorn since its sweet coconut and vanilla flavour last year, and coincides with nut-based products such as peanut butter overtaking marmalade as Britons’ favourite spread.
Propercorn founder Cassandra Stavrou said: “Nuts have never been more popular, with the category growing an impressive 8.5% to £402m last year. As we look for ways to eat more naturally, we increasingly find wonderful, nutritious ingredients like almonds being used in milk, butters, oils and now in popcorn.
“We are more conscious than ever of what we put into our bodies, looking for snacks that not only deliver on health but which also offer quality, taste and simplicity. Every mouthful of smooth peanut and almond packs an indulgent flavour punch but still comes in at just 120kcals per serving.”
The brand will launch single-serve and sharing packs of the new variant with recommended retail prices of £0.90 and £1.69 respectively.
