US beer brand Samuel Adams will celebrate the limited-edition release of their Belgian-style ale with a second annual tasting tour across the country.
The brand will visit cities in 14 American states, as well as Washington DC and a location of consumers’ choice, to show off its Kosmic Mother Funk Grand Cru. The recipe for this limited-edition beer was inspired by the unique beer styles and brewing techniques of the Belgians, including blending, aging and conditioning beers that deliver wild and flavourful results, brewer The Boston Beer Company said.
“The Samuel Adams brewers began by taking a Belgian ale and aging it in Hungarian oak tuns,” the company explained. “Aged for up to a year, the long contact with the wood allows air to slowly seep into the beer during secondary fermentation, smoothing out any harsh flavours. Wild yeast and bacteria including brettanomyces and lactobacillus also interact with the beer, imparting unique spicy, fruity and bright tart flavours.”
The result is a beer described as a 6.5% ABV beer described as “a wild, funky and complex ale aged for just over a year, with a depth of flavours ranging from earth and spicy to floral and sweet”.
Samuel Adams brewer and founder Jim Koch said: “Craft beer drinkers are adventurous and opening their palates to new and interesting flavours. Kosmic Mother Funk Grand Cru isn’t for everyone, but those who enjoy it appreciate the depth and complexity that make it one of the most unique beers we’ve ever crafted, only to be described as a kosmic collection of flavours.”Sam
