A major upgrade is underway at a brewery in Scotland, as it prepares to expand into global markets.
Spey Valley Brewery in Moray has invested £315,000 in fitting out its custom built brewery house with a new plant and machinery, having secured a £90,000 contribution from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). It will include fermentation vessels, conditioning tanks and new facilities to increase the company’s capacity to brew craft beers and ales.
The three-year capital investment plan will accelerate its growth into a fully established organisation servicing multiple markets, the brewer said. It will enable Spey Valley Brewery to realise its international ambitions, while continuing to expand its customer base across Scotland and the UK.
Angie Smith, business growth account manager with HIE in Moray, said: “Spey Valley Brewery is an excellent example of a Moray business with clear growth ambitions and tremendous potential. The company is a key player in the region’s reputation for excellence in food and drink, one of our priority growth sectors. The company’s plans for expansion over the next three years will create valuable new job opportunities and contribute to the region’s growing attraction as a place to live, work, study and invest. Our role is to foster this type of ambition and help stimulate and accelerate business growth. I am delighted we are able to support Spey Valley Brewery in this important development and look forward to continuing to work with the company as it expands into new markets.”
David McDonald, Spey Valley Brewery managing director, added: “The Scottish brewing scene has never been more vibrant. Spey Valley Brewery has been very popular locally for some time and we’re committed to making the best beer we can and showcasing it worldwide.
“HIE and the Clydesdale Bank have been instrumental in our growth plans. With their guidance and support we can start to realise our potential and take our beers well beyond the borders of Moray.
“The new brewhouse, at 3,200 litres per brew, is ten times larger than our current plant. It has been future proofed as much as possible and has the capacity to produce up to 24,000 litres a week with the addition of just a few more tanks.
“If we meet our targets over the next 12 months, we plan to build our own packaging facility in Speyside too. This would create more jobs and make us even more competitive on the national and international stage.”
