The UK’s Great Taste Awards 2009 announced last week awarded an impressive two Gold Stars to the Sloe Whisky, firmly establishing the liqueur as an alternative tipple to its better known sister, Sloe Gin, which was awarded a Gold Star at last year’s Great Taste Awards.
Jonathan Curtoys, MD of Sloe Motion, said: “I’m over the moon to be awarded the coveted black and gold logo, with two gold stars! Our Sloe Whisky is always extremely popular at tastings and has a fast-growing fan club. Even people who claim they don’t like whisky are converted after just one sip. It means a great deal to be given the seal of approval by independent experts in the speciality food industry.”
The national Great Taste Awards – dubbed the ‘epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize’ and acknowledged as the benchmark for fine food and drink in the UK among the country’s retailers and consumers – are organised by The Guild of Fine Food and have been running since 1993. All entries undergo rigorous tests by a specially selected panel of experts, including leading chefs, buyers, food critics and deli owners.
Of the 4,873 products entered in this year’s Awards, 639 achieved one gold star, 308 received two stars and 83 were awarded three stars.
