Spar and Shell join forces
Spar and Shell Austria have signed a cooperation agreement.
After successful test sites in Wattens (Tyrol) and Feldkirch (Vorarlberg), where Spar Express forecourt stores have been in operation since the summer of 2011, the contracting partners intend to extend the number of forecourt stores by an additional 50 stores by 2013.
Spar primarily controls Shell service stations in urban areas. Spar Express forecourt stores are open seven days a week offering fresh food at significantly lower prices than traditional forecourt stores.
Two years ago, Spar Austria entered the forecourt business. Since 2010, about 30 forecourt stores in Austria have been opened in cooperation with Doppler Mineralöle.
Dr Gert Seybold, CEO of Shell Austria, said: "Shell and Spar are two strong partners combining their know-how and many years of experience in the fuel and food business for the benefit of customers.
"Through this cooperation, Shell and Spar have demonstrated that even in mature markets such as Austria the focus can be on growth.
