A new breakfast range, a cost efficiencies drive, and continued expansion into new places and spaces has helped Starbucks UK record an 8th consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth, continuing to outperform tough trading conditions on the high street.
The details of Starbucks UK business come as the company releases its global earnings figures for Q3 (April – June 2011).
UK highlights for Q3 include:
- Store sales grew with healthy, single digit growth, despite falling footfall in the UK high street.
- The launch of a new breakfast range resulted in extra sales in the mornings with comparable figures up almost 50% in June.
- Emphasis on driving cost efficiencies including cutting around 250,000 road deliveries to UK & Ireland stores, at the same times as improving environmental performance.
- Reaching customers in new places by serving hot drinks on the motorways with Welcome Break in the last year.
- Since its launch in Q3 Starbucks bottled Frappuccino is now available in over 3,000 grocery and forecourt locations.
- London is the highest performing region with a further 20 flagship renovations planned before the London 2012 Olympics.
- Leadership transition with the appointment of Kris Engskov as senior vice president and MD, replacing Darcy Willson-Rymer.
Darcy Willson-Rymer, Starbucks UK & Ireland MD, said: “We are very encouraged by continuing sales growth and how well customers have received our new breakfast range despite trading conditions in the UK remaining tough, especially with increasing fuel and food bills.
“So we’re focused on finding ways to drive efficiencies across the business to protect our customers from these rising prices as much as possible. This includes cutting deliveries to our stores by taking around 250,000 truck movements off the roads.”
